iBall
The iBall can change color when you recieve an email. You can connect the iBall to your computer by USB or you can connect it directly to an ethernet cable.
This light uses an Arduino board with an Ethernet shield (when you only use the ethernet plug).
Arduino is an open-source electronics prototyping platform based on flexible, easy-to-use hardware and software.

My contribution: I created the Win32 code in C++ to check for mail and create a serial-connection to the Arduino to switch the light.
